SHOOTING IN SELF-DEFENCE. (Rec. 10.5 p.m.) Sydney, December 5. The Criminal Court trial of Alfred Edwards, aged 23, who was charged with the murder of James Curran in the Gloucester District, has concluded. Edwards told the jury he shot Curran in self-defence. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and Edwards was discharged.

A previous message stated that in a sensational shotgun duel near Copeland, James Curran, aged 52, was shot dead, his head being blown off and other dreadful injuries inflicted. Several hours later Edwards, who was correspondent in Curran’s divorce suit, surrendered to the police and was charged with murder.
