WELL PUNISHED

MARYLEBONE BOWLING NEW SOUTH WALES EIGHT FOR 629 CENTURY TO ALLSOPP. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, November 24. At the end of the second day of the cricket match, New South Wales versus Marylebone, which was played in perfect weather, the visitors were fighting hard for runs. In scoring the almost mammoth total of 629 runs for eight wickets in 420 minutes, the young New South Wales side put up a meritorious performance. Six bowlers were tried during the morning, but Bowley, and later Barratt, had to leave the field owing to strains. Alisopp and McCabe scored at will, reaching the fence on several occasions. The former, upon attaining the coveted century, was given a rousing cheer for a great display of shots. McCabe batted attractively throughout. New South Wales’ innings was declared at 3 p.m., giving the crowd of 22,443 who paid £1,924 a chance to see the tourists at the wickets. England's opening batsmen, Dawson and Gilligan, were freely barracked for slow scoring. Dawson was smartly caught in the slips by Hooker off Fairfax. Duleepsinhji exhibited some excellent strokes before missing a straight ball from Dupain. Woolley, England’s big hitter, opened his account with three dazzling boundaries. Gilligan batted steadily for his runs, while Woolley continued to rattle the pickets. When 42 he had reached the fence eight times. Turnbull concentrated on keeping his end up. At stumps the score was three for 171. The scores are as follows:
