WASTING TIME

GOVERNMENT REBUKED.

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, October 4,

The time of the House of Representatives on Thursday was occupied with a long drawn out debate on the lumd Laws Amentment Bill and this led to a spirited rebuke to the Government by Mr. H. E. Holland (Labout) for the method under which the business was being conducted. The House sat until 3.30 on Friday rooming and shortly before it rose, Mr. Holland said he wanted to say that he would not be party to the action of the United Party in sitting all hours of the night to listen to members saying the same thing over and over again. The Government asked for urgency and then spent the night saying they were in support of the Bill before the House. If the Government wanted urgency, it should make arrangements with the other parties and apply that urgency when it was granted. Everyone appeared to be in favour of the Bill and it was foolish to talk and talk when there was no criticism to offer.

The Minister of Lands said he thought that the debate had been a good one in spite of the fact that the storm had come at the end of it.
