COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER
QUOTATION FOR TO-DAY. It is my joy in life to find At every turning of the road, The strong arms of a comrade kind To help me onward with my load; And since I have no gold to give, And love alone must make amends, My only prayer is while I live — God make me worthy of my friends. —Frank Demster Sherman.
(Sent in by Cousin Ethel Fotheringham)
MA’ DEAREST COUSINS, Goodness me! What a lesson I’ve been learning this week. Learn from my experience, cousins mine, and never, never, never allow your work to accumulate for months and then promise to clean it up in one little week. Because that’s what Ive been doing all this week, and believe me it has been a hugeous job. Anyway, all the enrolment cards have now been posted, and in the future I will make an effort to send them out once a week. Because it’s taken me hours and hours and hours, more than I’d ever like to look back on, to get them done, although, of course, it’s a very proper punishment for me for allowing them to accumulate since before the bazaar. The prize-monies are all out, too, so if anybody has not received his or hers by the beginning of next week, please let me know at once. The badges I hope to get sent to-day; but although the new shipment arrived last week. I have yet to check them before I can send them out, so you can see how busy I’ve been. Do you know, somebody told me the other day that there were only twelve weeks to Christmas—think of that! I gave such a huge start of surprise that I’m sure I nearly jumped oil the footpath—and yet it’s the awful truth! Have you ever known a year to pass so quickly, cousins, or is it just that I’m getting old, and adopting one of the continual plaints of old age Please tell me truly. Anyway the approach of Christmas means that we must be thinking of this year’s hospital celebrations. Has anyone any suggestions to make concerning them, I hope you all have, and that you'll write to me at length concerning them. I sent you my best love warming the sunshine and sc-ftening the rain (only I hope there’? none!)
