Solutions of problems, games, criticisms and analyses are invited.

All communications to be addressed to "Draughts Editor,” 54 Biggar Street.

Draughts club meets Wednesday evenings 7.30 at 90 Esk Street, opposite Police Station. Visitors welcome.

Our first problem this week is an end game played at Tuatapere. Mr O'Neill says “It is not up to the Heffner standard, but useful enough for the ordinary player. The win was missed in the actual game, the White player making a rush for a king which shows that a king is not everything in the great old game.”

PROBLEM No. 105. ' By J. O’Neill, Tuatapere. BLACK 3,6, 12, 14.

WHITE 11, 20, 22, 30.

(a) This is now the “Whilter” opening, usually brought up by 11.15, 23.19, 9.14, 22.17, 7.11, same as above at A. About this opening, Mr N. W. Banks, the famous American crack, says: “Slightly in favour of Black, and should be mastered by all students of the game.” (b) “Lee’s Guide” plays 5.9 first, 17.13, then 8.11 to a draw. (c) 4.8 looks more natural, as given in the “Guide.” (d) Appears to be a fine, original game from note b. GAME No. 107.
