CROYDON BENEDICTS’ BALL. An enjoyable time was spent on Wednesday evening last, when, in response to invitations sent out by the benedicts of the district, the Croydon hall was packed to the doors. Visitors were present from Gore, Charlton, Chatton, Greenvale, Mataura, Waimumu, Riversdale and Waikaia. The music provided by Bain’s Orchestra —G. Bain (piano), I. Greenfield (flute) and L. Taylor (violin) —was of the usual high standard, and the floor being in excellent order everything went with a swing. Mr. J. O’Keefe made a very efficient M.C. Mr. J. F. Grant thanked the visitors for rolling up in such large numbers, also all those who in any way asisted towards making the evening the success it undoubtedly was. Although it was something like 10 years since the Croydon benedicts held their last ball, he said they hoped to make it an annual affair. Messrs. Johnston and Smith, both former residents of the district, replied on behalf of the visitors. During the evening extras were provided by Messrs. Edwards, Wardrop and Richardson.
