(From Our Correspondent.) At a special meeting of the Wyndham Town Board on Monday evening those present were: Councillors G. Hunter (in the chair), W. Richardson, H. Hunter, A. Lindsay, R. G. Carson, W. H. Johnstone. The following was the result of business taken in committee:— Applications were received from the Wyndham Girls’ Hockey Club and the Wyndham Football Club for permission to make a charge for admission to their matches on Wednesday.—Moved and carried that the Football Club take 75 per cent, of the gate and the Hockey Club 25 per cent. With reference to the letter appearing in a recent issue of the Southland Times over the associated names of the scoutmasters present on June 3, when the grounds were alleged to have been left in an untidy state, the following resolution was carried: "That this board, after making full inquiries and giving due consideration to this matter, is of opinion that the grounds the condition reported by the caretaker.” A donation of £lO was made to the earthquake relief fund. Dance. There was a large attendance at the Masonic social hall last Friday evening when the brethren of the local Orange Lodge held their annual ball. Music for the dance was supplied by Caldwell’s band, while Messrs H. McLean and D. Duthie effiiciently carried out the duties of floormasters. Euchre Party. There was only a fair attendance at the Masonic social hall last Tuesday evening when a progressive euchre party and dance was held in aid of funds of the local athenaeum. The cards, which were under the control of Mrs T. Burstal, were won by Miss A. Bogue and Mr T. Burstal, with consolation honours falling to Mrs J. A. Munro and Mr S. McDonald. For the dance Mr L. Harley was M.C. and good music was provided by Mesdames L. Harley and S. McDonald and Miss Winn. Obituary. On Wednesday many residents learnt with sincere regret of the death of Mrs Jessie Ann Torbet, wife of Mr Thomas Torbet, Edendale South and eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Alexander Marshall, also of Edendale South. The deceased lady was endowed with musical talent and she gave generously of her beautiful-soprano voice in the interests of deserving affairs. The funeral took place last Friday afternoon leaving the residence of the parents of the deceased lady at 2 o’clock for the place of interment in the Edendale Cemetery. The Rev. R. D. McEwan conducted the religious service and the presence of a large number of mourners testified to the wide respect in which the deceased lady was held. Presentation. Members of the Wyndham Presbyterian choir assembled in force at the residence of Mrs Andrew Strang, Alma street, last Friday evening for the purpose of making a presentation to one of their members, Miss Taylor, on the eve of her marriage to Mr Joseph Dunstan. A most enjoyable hour or two was spent with games, competitions and music. Songs were contributed by Misses A. Ayson and L. McLennan, Messrs D. N. A. Macpherson and S. Stewart. Misses Thorn Strang and Ella Dobbie played a pianoforte duet; Misses Ella Dobbie and Jean Winter contributed pianoforte solos, Mr M. Milburn played a violin solo; and the choir joined in part singing. Mr Macpherson, on behalf of the assembled friends, asked Miss Taylor’s acceptance of a salad bowl and jug, at the same time referring to their guest’s long and faithful record as a chorister. Miss Ayson and Mrs Strang also spoke in complimentary terms of Miss Taylor’s services. Mr Dunstan made suitable acknowledgement.
