DEAR POTATOES

£2O A TON IN SYDNEY.

BOYCOTT BY HOUSEWIVES.

(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, July 23. The Housewives’ 'Progressive Association has instituted a boycott on potatoes as a protest against the prevailing high prices, but though the demand to-day shows a slackening the price remains at £2O a ton. A year ago supplies were little more than at present and the price was round about £7. To-day it was reported that one Sussex street buyer paid £2l 10/- for a line of 1000 bags of Tasmanian brownells and a further soaring of prices is forecasted due to speculative purchases. —Australian Press Association.
