BRITISH COLUMBIA
STEAMSHIP SERVICE TO AUSTRALIA.
Ottawa, July 19.
The Minister for Trade and Commerce (the Hon. James Malcolm) announced today that the contract for a complete service from British Columbia ports to Australia had been awarded to the Australian British Columbia Company, Limited. The contract is for three years. The annual subsidy paid by the Government is 92,400 dollars. The steamships will be at least 7000 tons dead weight, and able to carry an average, of 4,000,000 feet of lumber. All the ships are to be on the British register.—Australian Press Association.
