BUTTER FOR CANADA. LARGE QUANTITY SOLD. * OVER FOUR THOUSAND TONS. GOOD PRICES OBTAINED. Palmerston North, July IS. The statement that Amalgamated Dairies had sold over 4000 tons of butter to Eastern Canada, for shipment during October, November, December, January and February next, was made by Mr W. Goodfellow at a meeting of factory directors to-day, says the New Zealand Herald’s correspondent. These sales averaged slightly above 16.? d per lb nett to the factory for finest quality, and a farthing less for first grade. Sales as high as 17d nett to factory had been made for small parcels. Mr Goodfellow stated that associated companies would have an opportunity on a tonnage basis of sharing Canadian sales. He stated further that factories were previously asking more than Canada would pay, but that there was now a tendency to reduce prices below 1/42, which was quite unnecessary, and which would only result in a general all-round reduction in price without any additional quantity being sold. Mr W. Grounds and Mr Goodfellow have already addressed numerous meetings _of factory directors, and the Empire marketing proposal is being well received. LONDON MARKETS.
