THE GIRL GUIDES
A very pleasing and interesting function was held on Monday, June 24, at the residence of Mrs J. C. Macpherson, Riversdale, the occasion being the first anniversary of the forming of the Riversdale Girl Guides. The members of committee were also present and were entertained with card games in the drawing-room, while the guides enjoyed games and musical items in the dining-room. About 20 guides were present, this number speaking well for the interest taken in the movement in the district.
An important and attractive feature was a beautiful birthday cake which had been made for the occasion by Miss Freda Macpherson, guide lieutenant. The honour of cutting the cake was given to Miss E. Kelly, guide captain, who first spoke a few appropriate words, then lighted and extinguished the one birthday candle, after which the cake was cut and handed round among the assembled company. The Riversdale Guides are fortunate indeed in their capable and kindly secretary, Mrs Macpherson, who has always worked wholeheartedly to give pleasure to the girls and to promote the general welfare of the guide movement. Now that a company has been formed at Lumsden, St is hoped to see between these two branches some healthy competition, which cannot fail to be of benefit to both.
