JONES DIVORCE CASE
HUSBAND SUCCESSFUL.
PLEA FOR MAINTENANCE REFUSED.
(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) New York, July 19. At Reno, Lloyd Jones was granted a divorce, behind locked doors, by Judge Bartlett. The wife’s plea for separate maintenance was refused.
The judge rejected the evidence the wife presented of “another woman.” The reason for the denial of maintenance was the husband’s showing that while he possessed 500,001)'dollars, he had already given his wife 400,000, including stock in the business. There was no contest over the custody of the child Patricia, aged 10, who is with her mother in London. Jones will be permitted to see her whenever he desires. •—Australian Press Association.
A message from New York on April 24 read as follows: —Mr Charles Lloyd Jones, of Sydney, who has been living in Reno since last year, has filed a suit for divorce, alleging that his wife deserted him in September, 1925. Mrs Jones, who was served with the papers in London, is fighting the suit. She pleads incompatibility. Mr Jones claims that his wife took no interest in his affairs and was inattentive when he was seriously ill. He admits he has an income of £l,OBO per month. Mrs Jones asks for separate maintenance at the rate of £528 per month, but her husband counter-claims that she has already been given 45,000 shares in David Jones, Ltd., with an annual income of £4,800. Mrs Jones also alleges desertion, but she does not ask for divorce for herself.
