OHAI RAILWAY BOARD
(From our Correspondent). Messrs McGregor and Excell ■ (members) the general manager (Mr A. IV. Rodger), engineer (Mr F. J. Williams) and traffic manager (Mr R. Donnelly) were also in attendance at the meeting of the Ohai Railway Board on Wednesday. It was resolved that a special meeting be held on Saturday, July 27, to consider objections to the electors’ list-, the general manager to advise members if none were received. The secretary, Nightcaps and District Ambulance Committee, wrote requesting a renewal of subscription.—Resolved that £5 be voted. It was left in the hands of the staff to go into the question of a retarder for weighing purposes and report to next meeting. Mr J. W. Martin, secretary, Ohai Dental Clinic Committee, wrote stating that a bazaar was being held to erect a suitable building at Ohai for the treatment of children, and requested financial support. —It was resolved that £5 be voted.
The manager, Wairaki Coal Co., Ltd., wrote complaining that the board had failed to transport the men to the mine on Saturday, June 27 (the day of the snow).
The general manager stated the circumstances were extraordinary, and the traffic manager said he had endeavoured to get the men to their work. It was decided that every effort would be made in future to meet the requirements of the coal companies to prevent a recurrence of the trouble. It was left in the hands of the engineer to inspect a culvert at Birchwood tips, which was not taking the water away.
