WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT WAIKAKA. At the monthly meeting of the Waikaka Women’s Institute, held in the hall on Friday, there were present Mesdames F. GutSchlag (president), Murdoch and McKenzie (vice-presidents), H. Kerse, A. Ross, W. Matheson, C. Green, J. Rankin, T. Favel, -L. Ryder, F. Browning, Swanson, S. Black, P. Ramsay (secretary), Misses Greer (treasurer), L. Green, McKenzie, Herror and McEwan. The motto for the month was, “Learning, like a river, begins with a small stream.” Mrs Gutschlag presided and briefly introduced Mr C. Burrows, of Gore, who pro. ceeded to give a most enjoyable demonstration of wreath-making, several ladies assisting. Mr Burrows offered to assist the institute in any way he could and to come back when flowers were more plentiful and give a demonstration on bouquet-making. He then gave a short talk on bulb-planting and answered several questions. He was accorded a hearty'vote of thanks, which was carried by acclamation. It was decided that the institute donate .£2 2/- to the management committee of the Waikaka Memorial to re-gild the names on the monument. It was also decided to hold an open social evening on the first Friday in July. The hostesses were Mesdames Murdoch and A. Ross and Miss Herron.
