PREMIER’S VIEWS
LAND SETTLEMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT .
(Per United Press Association.)
Auckland, June 5
Replying to a deputation from the Land Settlement League, Sir Joseph Ward indicated his keen interest in the settlement of Crown and Native areas in addition towhat had already been commenced by the Government in acquiring estates for closer settlement. He regarded the matter as of paramount importance because he foresaw that an effective policy of land settlement would prove the best way of dealing with the recurring difficulty of unemployment-. The matter had his personal sympathy. He promised to consult his colleagues with a view to securing legislation in the coming sessign which would enable the proposals of the League to be given a full and fair trial.
