COAL INDUSTRY

STRIKE IN NEW SOUTH WALES. SEVEN HUNDRED MEN IDLE. Sydney, June 3. The strike at the two southern coal mines has rendered 700 men idle. At Scarborough the stoppage is due to the manager’s refusal of the miners’ request to reinstate a man who had walked off the job, while at Dapto trouble arose out of the miners’ refusal to work an extra night shift. The result of these strikes will be serious for the northern colliery men, for whom the miners at work are levied 121 per cent. —Australian Press Association.
