HOMING PIGEONS
YOUNG' COCK BIRD SHOW. On Monday 6th. inst., the Southland Homing Pigeon Club held a young cock bird show in conjunction with the bouthland Bantam Club. Mr J. Muir kindly consented to act as judge, 1 here was a very fine entry of 21 birds, being the pick of the lofts of the members showing. Mr W. Patterson was successiut in winning the valuable trophy presented by Mr L. S. Brooks, Renown Cycle Works. Results; W. Patterson's red cheq 1 J. W. Cox’s blue cheq 2 W. Patterson's blue cheq. pied .. .. 3 PEN RACE EROM OAMARU. Ou Saturday, 4th inst., the Southland Homing Pigeon Club flew a pen race from Oamaru. The birds were liberated by jWr W. H. Purvey In dull weather, the first bird homing in shis. 20mins. There was an entry of seven lofts, the addition of a special prize kindly presented by Mr O. Mills, of Ohai, making the members very keen to win. The winning bird was Mr J. Mefiin’s Lady Veron, which has been Hying very consistently this season to finally record a meritorious win. The results were as follows:— J. Meffin’s blue chequer hen Lady Veron (shrs. 20mins) 1 T. Kearney’s blue chequer cock Pink Coat (shrs. 25Jmins.) 2 W. Patterson’s red chequer cock Navigator (shrs. 26Jmins) 3 Also competed: N. Shaw, J. Cox, F. •Daubney and E. Gibb.
