GRETNA GREEN
MANY CLANDESTINE MARRIAGES. INQUIRY BEING CONSIDERED. (Rec. 7.0 p.m.) London, May 7. Mr H. Day (Labour), calling attention in the House of Commons to the frequency of clandestine marriages at Gretna Green, suggested a Commission to inquire into marriages under the Scottish law. Mr A. M. Macßobert said he was aware there were many irrcgualr marriages at Gretna Green and many other places in Scotland. He was considering the question of an inquiry. Mr Day: Were there not 215 marriages contracted at Gretna Green last year, of which only eighteen w'erc registered? Mr Macßobert said he was not aware of the exact figures.—Australian Press Associ-ation-United Service.
