MINISTERIAL. The Hon. H. Atmore, who has been’visiting South Westland since Saturday night, returned to Hokitika on Tuesday evening. He expressed great appreciation of the splendour, of the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. ’ He. inspected various schools en route and received a number of deputations. Yesterday morning he visited the local school, addressing the scholars, and subsequently left for the north.—Press .Association message. Mr E. Keast leaves for Auckland this morning to attend the biennial conference of the Typographical Association. The many friends of Mr A. C. Mills, of Otautau, will be glad to learn that he is well on the way to recovery from his recent very serious illness. On Tuesday evening the management and staff of the Gore branch of J. G. Ward and Company, Limited, assembled in the manager’s room to make a presentation to Mr L. G. Thomson, who was about to enter the ranks of the benedicks. Mr. A. H. Smith, in presenting him with a substantial cheque, referred to the esteem and goodwill in which Mr Thomson was held by the other members of the staff, who joined in wishing him every success and happiness. The manager, Mr W. Kirk, also made appreciative reference to Mr Thomson’s association with the staff and wished him good luck. Mr Thomson suitably acknowledged the presentation. Yesterday Mr Thomson was married to Miss T. O. Maude.
