WAIKAKA NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.)
On Wednesday evening last the residents of Waikaka and surrounding districts honoured Miss Amy McGrath and Mr A. Morris by giving them a kitchen evening on the occasion of their approaching marriage. The first part of the evening was devoted to games interspersed by songs. Miss Ida Green, on behalf of those present, asked the guests to accept a host of parcels and in so doing referred to the loss the young people were having by their joining the band of benedicks. Mr A. McQueen also spoke in appreciative terms of their guests. Mr A. Morris suitably replied on behalf of Miss McGrath and himself. While playing games during the evening Mrs J. Newlands had the misfortune to fall and fracture her wrist. She was taken to Gore for medical attention and since then has been an inmate of the Gore Hospital. On Thursda 1 ’ evening the Anglican Church was well filled for the harvest thanksgiving service. The Rev. Dawson (Tapanui) took the service and the Rev. Lawrence (Lumsden) preached a . very impressive sermon. Members of the congregation afterwards spent a social evening at Mr C. Green’s residence.
On Friday evening the residents of Greenvale held their harvest home ball in the Waikaka Hall. Visitors were present from Gore, Heriot, Kelso and all the surrounding districts. The floor was in perfect order for dancing and this helped to make the evening’s fun most enjoyable. Miss Stuck, who has been relieving teacher at the Greenvale school for some time, left the district on Saturday. Mr Bishop, the newly appointed teacher, took up duties on Monday morning.
