HOMEWARD BOUND. A notable departure from Wellington on April 16 for England was the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s large motor ship Coptic, which sailed shortly after mid-day for London, via the Panama canal. Thin fine ship is carrying a full cargo of wool, frozen meat, dairy produce, fruit, and other produce. . Loaded within a foot or 18 inches of her Plimsol mark, the Coptic was in good trim, and should make the run to London, where she is due about May 20, in 34 days. The Coptic went out from London with a full cargo for Australian ports. She made the run to the Suez canal in eight days, and after calling at Colombo, Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland ports, completed discharging at Cairns 56 days after her departure from London. Her powerful Diesel engines are working well, and the ship averaged over 15 knots on the passage to Australia. The Coptic has now joined the long procession of fully-loaded liners carrying the season’s wool, meat, fruit, and dairy produce from the Dominion to the. United Kingdom. Since the middle of February no fewer than 25 large ships have sailed from New’ Zealand ports for England, and of this big fleet 17 or 18 are etill steaming along the 11,500 miles’ route. Two of them, Port Melbourne and Port Pirie, are running in pairs, and have kept close together all the way since their departure from New Zealand early last month.
