WELLINGTON CARILLON
LOANED TO NEWCASTLE.
FEATURE AT EMPIRE EXHIBITION. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, April 20. In answer to a request to the Wellington War Memorial Carillon Society that the carillon be lent to the British Industries Exhibition at Newcastle for six months, the following reply has been sent: “That the carillon be made available to the Newcastle Empire Exhibition authorities in terms and conditions stated in communication from the Treasury, dated April 11, 1929.” This means that 'the Carillon Society is willing to allow the Wellington War Memorial Carillon to be loaned to the Newcastle Empire Exhibition authorities as urged by the High Commissioner without cost. The society has agreed to this proposal, believing as it does that the carillon, being in the nature of a war memorial, will be fulfilling its mission equally to the great population of the Mother Country for the period named as it will when ultimately erected in its permanent home in Wellington.
