UNUSUAL VISITOR

ALBATROSS CRASHES INTO RIGGING

INCIDENT ON STEAMER CALM.

Wellington, April 16

WHilc the steamer Calm was making its way from Lyttelton to Wellington through a heavy fog on Saturday morning a large albatross crashed into the rigging and fell to the deck.

The bird was stunned by the force of the impact and for the rest of the voyage was carefully looked after by members of the crew.

Fortunately the albatross did not receive serious injuries and when the Calm left 'Wellington yesterday for Wanganui it was intended to release it as soon as the vessel cleared the heads.
