Mr P. Campbell, of Wyndham, is at present in Dunedin. Mr T. O’Byrne is on a visit to the Gatlins district and will return to Invercargill on Wednesday.

Major H. D. McHugh returned to Invercargill from Auckland by the express on Saturday evening.

Mr J. Pickard, district railways traffic manager, left for Christchurch on Friday. He will be absent on departmental business for a few days.

Bluff residents who returned from the north on Saturday included Mr and Mrs W. Barker, Mrs Burnby and Mr and Mrs T. Ross.

At the request of a large number of ratepayers in the Waikaia riding and his fellow councillors, Mr Colin Robertson;-the present member for the Waikaia riding decided to stand for re-election at the forthcoming elections.

' Mr F. W. Furkert (Under-Secretary and Engineer-in-Chief to the Public Works Department), Mr T. M. Ball (district engineer) and Mr T. G. Beck (assistant, engineer), who have been making investigations on the Graves-Talbot track from the head of Lake Wakatipu to Milford, returned to Dunedin from Queenstown on Friday evening.

Advantage was taken of the opportunity provided by a gathering of members of the Invercargill Golf Club in the club house at Otatara on Saturday to say good-bye to Mr James Mackintosh, who leaves shortly on a trip Home. The president (Mr R. J. Gilmour), on behalf of the company, presented Mr Mackintosh with a pipe. He referred to Mr Mackintosh’s long association with the club and to the valuable services he had rendered as honorary treasurer. Mr Mackintosh’s golfing friends held him in the highest esteem and joined in wishing him a very enjoyable trip abroad and assured him of a warm welcome on his return. The toast of Mr Mackintosh’s health was proposed in very happy terms and enthusiastically drunk with musical honours, after which Mr Mackintosh made an appropriate response. __
