TAPANUI SHOW

THE FARMERS’ CLUB FIFTY-FOURTH ANNUAL FIXTURE SHEEP A FEATURE (From Our Correspondent.) The 54th annual show of the Tapanu; Farmers’ Club was held on Wednesday it fine weather when there was a large at' tendance from all parts of .the district. The gate receipts were about £1 less than the previous year, but this was more than made up in an increase of the sale of members’ tickets. The entries were 120 in excess of those received for last year’s exhibition. A feature of the show was the sheep section which was a credit to the district, while the draught and light horses also showed a substantial increase. In the cattle sections entries were confined to a few breeders and first and champion in Shorthorns went to Mr J. A. McDonald’s bull, while in the Ayrshire section > Mrs Wilson secured the first and champion. Jerseys were good classes in which all the honours went to the noted breeder, Mr N. Moore. The draught horse section was a fine show, in which the Crookston breeders, Messrs Fleming Bros., gained most of the honours, securing champion and reserve champion wdth two good. mares, one by Myroe Footprint out of Harvestoun Rita, and the other by Scotland’s Success —Harvestoun Rita. Competition was good in light horses and some very fine rings came up for decision. The pony classes also were very good. In the Romney section of the sheep Mr James Edgar secured first and champion in the male section, while Mr D. Robertson gained the honours in the ewe section. First and champion in males in Corriedales went to Mr James Edgar, junr., while the female champion was secured by Mr D. Robertson. Mr P. V. Quin annexed the champion in the Southdown class.
