Mr Winever, K.C., counsel for Fitzgibbons Then can you explain why Fitsgibbons when drawing £2OO from his bank, also withdrew £300? Jarvie: No. Jarvie admitted that when the Premier, Mr Bavin was discussing an attempt to bribe Mr Bruntnell, the Premier asked whether there was a rumour about £3OO as well as £2OO to which Jarvie replied: “Yes, there is a rumour, but I have no knowledge whether I am implicated.” Mr Winever: What was the rumour? Jarvie: That £5OO had been withdrawn. £2OO having reached Mr Bruntnell and some suggestion that £3OO reached me, which certainly is not correct. The police tendered a statement by Fitzgibbons, in which he declared he had withdrawn £5OO, and not £2OO, which was intended for party funds.
