GRASS HILL CLIMB.
SOUTHLAND MOTOR CYCLE CLUB’S SPORTS AT TE TIPUA. The motor cycle club held its December ,-rass hi* climb at Te Tipua, and a sports irogramme was included. The course elected by the sports committee for the limbing was short, rough, and fairly steep -undoubtedly the most severe hill the club .as yet used. In the first event, A. W. arsons and D. O. Wale (Ariels) tied for irst place, and in the run off the latter .as successful when he put up the fastest ime of the day. The results were:— i—D. O. Wale, 557 Ariel (3-ssec hep.) 13 4-ss. :—A. W. Parsons, 497 o.h.v. Ariel (scr.) 1 42-ss. :—T. Palmer, 497 o.h.v. Ariel (l-ssec hdp.j 14 4-ss. While he was trying out a course for the econd climb, the spectators were alarmed o see A. W. Parsons’ machine come right ver backwards as the result of striking n exceptionally bad bump on the steep rade; fortunately the rider was not seriusly hurt and was able to carry on for he other events. The second hill climb resulted as follows: 1— A. W. Parsons, 497 o.h.v. Ariel (l-ssec. hep.) 9secs. —G. J. Winton, 498 o.h.v. Triumph (2-5 sec. hep.) lOsecs. ;—C. Wren, 989 Harley (2 2-ssec hep.) 10 2-ssecs. Foso6r.ffi etaorin shrdlu cmfwy vbxkgq After lunch the following programme was ;one through:— Balloon-bursting, won by G. J. Winton (498 o.h.v. Triumph), with A. W. Parsons 497 o.h.v. Ariel) second and D. O. Wale 557 Ariel) third. Motor cycle football, in which A. W. Parsons (Ariel), D. O. Wale (Ariel), T. Palmer (Ariel) and A. J. Anderson (Indian), after an exciting game, defeated by 2 0 G. J. Winton (Triumph), W. Knuckey (Triumph), A. I. Baxter (Harley) and C. Wren (Harley). The final event was a grass track race over three laps of a course 3-10-mile round. C. Wren (989 Harley) retired after the first lap, and D. O. Wale (557 Ariel), who led all the way, was disqualified for cutting inside the corner stick in every lap. Winton and Parsons, both riding from scratch, kept together all the way and finished within ien yards of each other. Result: G. J. Winton (498 o.h.v. Triumph) 1; A. W. Parsons (497 o.h.v. Ariel) Time, Imin 48secs. The club is holding a run. to Roxburgh to-morrow to fit in with the Gore section; it is timed to leave Gore at 8 a.m. In January and February there will be fortnightly evening runs to Oreti Beach, when motor cycle football practices and other interesting events will be held.
