PRISONER ESCAPES

EXCITING CHASE FOLLOWS

Melbourne, November 20.

Four shots were fired at a prisoner, J. Bailey, when attempting to escape from Pentridge Gaol. He was captured after an exciting chase. The prisoner cut through the bars of the window with a hack saw which was secreted in his cell. Warders heard a noise and the alarm was raised. Another prisoner, Leonard Cowley, tried to climb the wall and was nearing the top when he fell and broke a bone in his foot. —Australian Press Association.
