GENERAL ELECTION

LIST OF CANDIDATES. The following is the list of candidates for the general election to-day. There are contests in all constituencies. There are two candidates only in the following:—Bay of Plenty, Otago Central, Buller, Christchurch East,* South, Clutha, Dunedin Central, Egmont, Franklin, Hutt, Invercargill, Kaipara, Mataura, Motueka, Napier, Nelson, Oroua, Patea, Stratford, Temuka, Timaru, Wairau, Waitaki, Wellington North, and Westland. Up to the last moment there was a straight-out Reform-Labour fight in Wellington Central, but the closing of nominations disclosed a third candidate in Mrs W. T. Young (wife of the former general secretary of the New Zealand Seamens’ Union), who stands as an Independent Labourite.
