The members of the Presbyterian choir met on Thursday evening to bid farewell to Mr Syd Hirst, who has been a valuable member for a considerable period, and who has been recently transferred to the north. Mr McKenzie, on behalf of the choir, presented Mr Hirst with a cigarette case and fountain pen, and wished him future success. He referred to the assistance that had been given to the choir by the guest, who had been a most enthusiastic member. Mr Hirst suitably replied. A very enjoyable evening was spent in games and musical items, followed by a dainty supper. Tourist Season. Arrangements are being made for the forthcoming tourist season. The Lumsden Tourist Company has secured the mail contract between Lumsden and the lakes for the next three years, and up-to-date cars are being installed for the comfort of the tourists travelling to Manapouri and Te Anau. The new engine for the boat at Te Anau arrived at Lumsden last week and was conveyed to its destination by motor lorry. Shags’ Heads. Two local sportsmen from the Castle Rock district returned on Monday from a successful shag shooting expedition at Mavora. Altogether 45 shags’ heads were secured, and while doing a service to anglers in the district, the party would also receive a fair return for their expedition, when it is considered that the Acclimatization Society set three shillings on the head of every shag.
