CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. (From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the general committee of the Wyndham Caledonian Society was held in the Athenaeum on Thursday evening, Mr C. E. Davey, in the absence of the president (Mr G. Hunter), presiding over a good attendance. The Secretary reported that the response to a canvass carried out by the committee appointed had been very satisfactory. A letter was received from the Wyndham and District St. Andrew’s Scottish Society advising that it would donate two special prizes to the society to the value of £3 3/-. Further, that it would be pleased to put on a concert in aid of the sports society’s funds on the night of the meeting in January.—Accepted with thanks, acknowledgment to be sent to the St. Andrew’s Society expressing appreciation at its generous offer. The secretary reported that the proceeds from the picture entertainment would amount to roughly £lO, which was considered very satisfactory. The Hon. G. J. Anderson and Mr Niel McEwan were appointed patrons of the society, while Mr Hugh McKerrow was appointed superintendent of the tug-of-war contests. Mr H. McDonald and the secretary were appointed to allot the special prizes to the various events. It was decided that the programme be printed and circulated at the very earliest convenience. ' Mr E. Sherbourne advised that his firm, The United Trading Co., would donate a cup valued at £5 5/-, and the allotment of same was held over until a later date. A. and P. Association. An executive meeting of the Wyndham Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held on Friday evening, Mr. R. K. McDonald (president) presiding. Application was received from the secretary of the Wyndham Stock Agents’ Association, asking for the use of the new show grounds and stalls for the purpose of holding a bull fair on Thursday, November 15. The application was granted subject to the grounds, etc., being left in the same condition as found. Applications were received for side show space at the forthcoming show, and it was decided that the applicants be advised that the rules as printed, a copy of which to be forwarded, would be strictly adhered to. The opening ceremony in connection with the new grounds was fixed for 10 o’clock on Friday, December 7, the arrangements for same to be left in the hands of the ground superintendents. The president reported that the w’ork on the ground was well forward, the whole being most satisfactory. The contractor had 192 stalls practically completed, while the row of spacious loose boxes on the north side were ready for filling with clay. The main building consisting of kitchen, dining room, produce room, office and Press room would be completed in the course of a few days. A little work had yet to be carried out, such a the filling in of ruts caused by heavy carting during the wet period, and the help of members with teams would be welcomed. Marshals and attending members were appointed for the day of the show, the secretary to advise them and other members that a working bee would be held on the grounds on December 1 to complete arrangements. It was decided that the hut on the -reserve be emptied of itg contents and sold at the next stock sale.
