JERSEY STUD SIRE FOR SALE THE HIGHLY BRED “MEADOWS SUPERIOR” (3yrs) Grand-son of the Great Producing Cow—LADY SUPERIOR (9971bs fat—2nd Class) and Double Grand-son of the Famous Sire—GRANNIES KNIGHT, Sire of over 40 C.O.R. Daughters including—Hollyoak Annie, 1056 lbs fat; Hawkesbury Peeress, 712 lbs fat. SPECIAL NOTE:— This bull is very quiet, is fit to be shown in any company, and is probably one of the highest butter-fat bulls in Otago or Southland. INQUIRIES TO C. S. LAWSON, “The Meadows,” Heriot.

SOUTHLAND DAIRYMEN! WHAT OF THE HERD SIRE FOR THE COMING SEASON? SEVERAL REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER OR CONTINUE WITH THE AYRSHIRE. 1. —Because every Ayrshire herd of note in Southland is subjected to annual herd-test and culled on results. 2. —Because you can get production figures back of any bull you buy. 3. —Because if you dairy with Ayrshires you won’t be worried about the high and low test controversy, as the Ayrshire represents the medium in the cow kingdom and the medium in all things is a good maxim to follow. 4. — The Ayrshire is the ideal cheese cow, being one of the largest yielders of milk under every-day conditions with a butter-fat test ranging between 3.6 and 4.4 on the average; a range proved by the Hawera experiment to be just right consistent with the demands of the trade. She is a good butter cow and her milk being specially adapted for the feeding of infante, has been proved up to the hilt to have no equal for town supply. 5. —That taken all round for every-day conditions, machine milking, hardiness, freedom from disease, docility, there is no other breed which will surpass or even equal the Ayrshire for returns per acre under Southland conditions. Southland has the best Ayrshires in New Zealand, proved by Royal Show winnings, and when C.O.R. testing was the fashion, out of four classes, three of them were headed by Southland Ayrshires. Of the 8000 odd cows tested by the Southland Herd-Testing Association last season a pure-bred Ayrshire topped the list. The world’s record for the Ayrshire is 27,197.71 b milk and 1257.201 b fat. Watch the Bull Fairs next month and be sure to buy an Ayrshire sire from a tested dam and let higher production be your aim. All characteristics required in a dairy sire will be found in the Ayrshire. FOR GENERAL INFORMATION APPLY TO: W. ALEXANDER, Secretary, Box 135, Invercargill, or A. M. WEIR, President, Menzies Ferry.
