OWNER KILLED
EXPLOSION ON PADDLE STEAMER. ■ (Rec. 7. 0 p.m.) Sydney, November 1. A piece of iron, hurtled by an explosion 1 aboard an old paddle steamer lying at Rozelle wharf, fell 50 yards away killing the owner of his vessel, Mr John Grille. Another piece of iron struck the side of a houje 100 yards further on and smashed, among other things, a kitchen sideboard. The paddle steamer was named Newcastle and was being broken up by explosives. When Grille was standing clear awaiting ! the firing of the charge he was struck by j a flying piece of scrap iron. Another man standing close by in conversation with Grille escaped injury.—Australian Press Association.
