ORDERS IN COUNCIL
. FARMERS’ UNION PROTEST. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 16. The Dominion executive of the Farmers’ Union recently protested against the practice of the Government in putting through important legislation by Order-in-Council and to-day received a letter—consideration of which was postponed—from the Premier defending the system. Mr Coates mainly stresses that the principle is sound and now generally accepted, Parliament laying down the main principles and leaving the details which often concerned highly technical matters with which it would be a waste of time for Parliament to concern itself.
