VISCOUNT LASCELLES’ PROPERTY. London, October 4. Portumna Castle, Galway, the property I of Viscount Lascelles, was burned to the ' ground early this morning. Civic guards i and soldiers rushed to the scene in a fruiti less endeavour to extinguish the flames. I Elaborate arrangements had been made to receive Viscount Lascelles and Princess Mary. REPORT EXAGGERATED. London, October 4. The hasty reports of fire at Viscount Lascelles’ Irish home have been exaggerated. The outbreak was confined to the stables and the garage. Portumna Castle was bequeathed to Viscount Lascelles by his uncle, the last Earl of Clanricarde, a millionaire peer who died in 1916. The Viscount’s interest in the estate was greatly esteemed by country people who were looking forward to a visit of Princess Mary with keen anticipation.— British Official Wireless. MALICIOUS INTENT EVIDENT. PARAFFIN AND PETROL FOUND. London, October 4. A search of the premises revealed tins of paraffin and petrol. There was indignation in the Free State when incendiarism reports were confirmed. Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles will not alter their ’irrangements. They will go to Portumna on Saturday, visiting Belfast on Thursday to fulfil public engagements. Meanwhile they will occupy a land agent’s house on the Portumna Estate. The castle itself was burnt in 1921 and was not rebuilt.—Australian Press Association.
