JAZZ AND JAZZ FIENDS.
To the Editor. Sir, —I shall not answer “Dave” nor shall I try to answer “Jimmy Triantiwantigong” as such utter piffle which they write condemns itself. It is quite apparent however that “Dominie” is trying to distort the truth when he construes my remarks viz.: “That the controversy has reached an impasse” to be an admission of defeat. To say that “impasse” is defeat is a terminological inexactitude. “Dominie” approves of my idea of a contest, Old-timers versus Jazz. As Mr J. Darby and Mr L. W. B. Stokes have promised to represent jazz I should like to know who “Dominie’s” dancers will be. Now I have been insisting that the old-time correspondents should not evade the point. What do 1 find now*. Firstly “Oatmeal’s” changes his nom de plume to “Dominie”; secondly, he again changes back to “Oatmeal”; thirdly, he is now “Dave” and “Jimmy Triantiwantigong.” I am now wondering if he’ll appear under his own name. He may be a humorous evader but I’m afraid his logical abilities are not apparent. I wouldn’t be surprised if he dances for the jazzers as I believe he has been known as the vamp of Smith’s dance hall.—l am, etc., SCOTTY.
