OTARA NOTES
WEATHER REPORT. (From Our Correspondent.) The weather during August was fair, being the first month of spring. The month was noted for the week of cold east winds from the 13th till the 20th. Rain fell on eight days, the total fall being 2.81 inches. Unfortunately there has been a few early morning frosts during the past week these retarding the growth which was coming away nicely. Any early potatoes that were through have all been blackened. The dairying season is close again. The local factory will be opening during the coming week. Unfortunately several farmers are having a lot of trouble with red water at present. The dairyman’s ball held in the Otara Hall on Friday. August 24, was a great success. Although the night was very cold a large crowd turned out. The music was supplied by Macintosh’s orchestra. DRAUGHTS MATCH. Tokanui played a return match with the local club on Monday evening, September 4, and some close games were witnessed. At the call of time Otara were successful by seven games.
