MEXICAN AIRMAN DEATH OF CAPTAIN CARRANZA GREAT MILITARY FUNERAL (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 7.10 p.m.) New York, July 15. Silent crowds packed the sun-baked streets around the chapel where the body of Captain Emilo Carranza was lying among heaps of floral tributes. New York City is planning the greatest military funeral in the city’s history. West Point cadets forming a guard of honour will escort the body to the train on which it will be taken to Mexico. It is estimated that 10,000 troops will assist in the funeral. President Calles sent a model of Carranza’s plane made of scarlet and white flowers to Colonel Lindberg inscribed: “His life was dedicated to his country and his death to the entire world.” Mexican advices state that Carranza had already been promoted to Major and will probably receive the posthumous rank of General in the Mexican Army. The remains of the plane will be placed in the Mexican National Museum. A monument will be erected at the runway from which he left Mexico for Washington.—Australian Press Association. Captain Emilo Carranza, the Mexican goodwill flyer, was killed in a crash near Mount Holly (New Jersey) while attempting a non-stop flight from New York to Mexico City. He took off on Thursday, and his body was found in the woods on Friday.
