MEAN THEFT

MAN SENTENCED TO GAOL. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, July 13. “When a man commits thefts such as this there is only one way to deal with him. One month’s imprisonment with hard labour,” said Mr Mosley S.M. in sentencing Stanley Robert Webber in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. “This is a case of theft from the graveside at Bromley Cemetery,” stated SubInspector Fitzpatrick. Webber was charged that on July 5 he stole a lady’s handbag and contents of a total value of £2 the property of Ruth Shanahan. The Magistrate said that accused had already had a fairly long term of probation and it did not seem to have done him much good.
