SHIPPING SERVICE
LEAGUE GOES‘INTO COMMITTEE. RATING SCHEME NOT APPROVED. An item on the agenda paper of the Southland League meeting last evening was “Australia-South Island shipping services; Mr Hinchey’s proposals.” When this business was reached Mr H. F. Drewe moved that the matter be discussed in committee and his motion was carried without discussion. The following motion was finally carried: “That while this league is not prepared to commit itself to support the proposed rating scheme to subsidize a steamer service between Australia and Bluff it favours a conference being held.” CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INVITATION. The Invercargill Chamber of Commerce wrote advising that Messrs H. C. Campbell and E. A. Rosevear of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce had been invited to confer with the Invercargill Chamber regarding the matter and had intimated that they would be coming to Invercargill on Thursday, July 19. It was proposed to convene a meeting at 7.30 p.m. that evening and the league executive was invited to attend. It was hoped that as a result of the discussion some practical suggestions for the improvement of the service would be forthcoming. The league decided to accept the invitation.
