INSURANCE SWINDLE
BOGUS CLAIMS FOR INJURIES. DOCTORS AND LAWYERS IMPLICATED. (Rec. 10.10 p.m.) New York, July 12. Thirteen lawyers and five physicians have been named members of a ring that employs men and women to fake falls over manhole covers and sidewalk obstructions in an elaborate scheme which costs insurance companies £600,000 annually. The scheme was for one man called the “flopper” to find a defect in the sidewalk, trip over it then file a false claim for injury, and the physician associated with the ring would furnish a false medical certificate.— United Service.
