POLITICS IN GREECE

RELEASE OF GENERAL PANGALOS. AN ELECTION IMPROBABLE. (Rec. 8.15 p.m.) Athens, July 11. General Pangalos, who was proclaimed Dictator in January, 1926, and was overthrown in the following August and had since been a prisoner, has been released following a Cabinet decision to the effect that the detention was no longer justifiable in view of the dissolution of Parliament, and consequently a commission is dealing with the case. , M. Tsaldaris asked for the attitude of the Government in connection with the election, declared that there was no question of an election, but only a manoeuvre to lengthen M. Venizelos’ retention in power with the connivance of M. Coundouriotls. General Metaxas, similarly questioned, replied that this was not a time for words, but deeds.—Australian Press Association.
