COAL MINE EXPLOSION
MANY WORKERS MISSING. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Paris, June 30. Fire in the shaft of the Rochelamcliere coal-mine at Stetienne caused a violent explosion in a gallery filled with workers. A dozen escaped, but between 40 and 50 are missing. It is believed that many were burned to death.—Australian Press Association. DEATH ROLL FIFTY-THREE. (Rec. 1.25 a.m.) Paris, July 1. Sixty working miners were all gassed before assistance could be given. Twelve revived, but 48 were dead when brought to the surface.—Australian Press Association. Later.
