PIGEON FLYING
INVERCARGILL HOMING SOCIETY. On May 19 the above club held a flock race from Mosgiel a distance of 103 miles. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster and had to fly against a head wind and rain for practically all the journey. Only one bird managed to get home in the day the winner turning out to be Mr S. Robson’s Silver Queen. A flock race was also held from Waikouaiti the results were:— Mr J. Cavanagh’s bl c Black Mint .. 1 Mr S. Robson’s b c h Dolores 2 Mr J. Low’s v.c.c. Red Leaf 3 The last race of the season was held on June 9 from Waipahi, being open to old or young birds. The birds had a beautiful day and the winning bird made great time equalling the record from Waipani held by Mr J. Muir the time being 50 minutes. The winner is a young bird bred by his owner off the well-known birds Commander and Lady Lois. The results were: Mr S. Robson’s red cheq. cock Commander II 50mins 1 Mr J. Winder’s black cock Blackmount 60mins 2 Mr L. Hemmingsen’s blue cheq. cock Triumph 64mins 3
