LET’S HIDE!
HEROES AND CROWDS, NATION LAUGHS. HAROLD LLOYD’S ADVICE. New York, May 13. Gene Tunney, world heavyweight champion boxer, and Colonel Chas. Lindbergh, the noted airman, met by appointment the other day and compared notes on the nuisance of being a hero. As they concluded their conversation and shook hands Tunney said: “I have it all over you in one thing. I can retire and you never can.” MARY PICKFORD’S DISGUISE. Los Angeles, May 13. Harold Lloyd leads the nation’s laughter at the spectacle of Lindbergh and Tunney trading secrets on how’ to avoid crowds. “When I want to disappear, which is frequently, I just don’t wear ‘specs,’ ” said Harold, who claims that the crowds don’t know him from Jack Jones or Billy Hughes when he has them off. “I know of other remedies for acute cases of crowd exposure,” he added. “Mary Pickford hides behind blue goggles, a veil, and a broad-brimmed hat every time she goes shopping. But perhaps ‘Lindy’ and his Shakespearean friend could get along without a hat and veil.”
