FALL PROVES FATAL. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, May 28. The death occurred in the hospital tonight of William John Marflitt who sustained severe head injuries last Thursday as the result of a fall from a tramcar. Deceased was married and aged 53. MAORI CHILD’S DEATH. Taumarunui, May 28. At the inquest concerning the death of Maraea Te Paa, a Maori child, 15 months old, the Coroner returned a verdict that death was due to shock caused by severe scalding. The Coroner commented strongly on the fact that the relatives failed to procure medical assistance at the time of the mishap when the child upset a billy of boiling water over herself. FOUND UNCONSCIOUS IN HUT. Christchurch, May 28. W. Samson was found unconscious in big hut at Hahmer on Saturday morning and died the same evening in the Queen Mary Hospital at Hanmer. Sansom had worked in the district for the past 30 years. DREDGE EMPLOYEE INJURED. Hokitika, May 28. A serious accident occurred on the Rimu dredge on Saturday morning during repairs, a large beam striking Frederick McCarthy, an employee, laying open his forehead and showing the skull. His collarbone and right thigh were also broken. The sufferer is at present progressing satisfactorily. DEATH DUE TO ALCOHOLISM. Dunedin, May 28. At the inquest on Rose Ann Taylor, a married woman, aged 57, who died suddenly in bed yesterday morning, a verdict was returned that death was due to heart failure, following alcoholism and lack of proper care. Evidence was given that deceased had been on a drinking bout for six weeks.
