MINISTER’S CAR SURCHARGED. DEBATE IN AFRICAN ASSEMBLY. Cape Town, May 25. A bitter two days’ debate in the Assembly arose out of the Auditor-General surcharging the Minister of the Post Office with £231 for the use of a motor for private purposes which the Premier subsequently condoned. General Smuts to-day regarded the allegation against the Auditor as the gravest injustice, and demanded a judicial inquiry. The Premier offered a Committee of Parliament to inquire into the matter, which the Opposition accepted.—Australian Press Association.
