MARINE COOKS

AGREEMENT EXPECTED STRIKE MAY END THIS WEEK TWENTY VESSELS TIED UP (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, May 27. Some hope has arisen that the marine cooks’ strike may be settled on Monday or Tuesday, but the position is critical. In the absence of an agreement the last coastal passenger ship—the Ormiston—will be tied up at Melbourne. It is stated that there is a chance of the cooks resuming on the owners’ terms. Twenty ships are now laid up at various ports awaiting cooks. The Union Company does not expect that any difficulty will arise in regard to sailing the Aorangi on Thursday.—Australian Press Association
