NEW ZEALAND APPLES
NEW AVENUES OF TRADE. SHIPMENT TO SOUTH AMERICA. London, May 25. The Argyllshire’s New Zealand apples brought—Dunn’s Delicious, 11/- to 12/-; Lord Wolseley’s, 10/6 to 11/-; Jonathans, 10/6 to 12/-. An interesting development is the exportation from London this week of 6558 boxes of New Zealand apples to Brazil. It is understood the Union Cold Storage purchased them at current market prices and shipped 4000 to Santos and 2556 to Rio de Janeiro by the Blue Star liner Avila. Before the Panama Canal was opened direct shipments used to be made to South America from New Zealand. The apples always realized excellent prices. If the present shipment is equally successful others may follow, as meat carriers returning to the Argentine offer abundance of refrigerated space. Traders here would welcome further exports to South America as this would relieve congestion in England.—Australian Press Association.
