THE LIBRARY. (From Our Correspondent.) The adjourned meeting of. subscribers to the Mataura Public Library to have been held on Friday attracted only the presence of the chairman of the committee (Mr J. W. Aitken) and Messrs W. Piercy, P. Amos, C. E. Rowe, W. P. Thorn and the secretary (Mr T. K, Fisher). The object of the meet ing is to effect improvements to the library and to provide means of procuring more books, but so far subscribers have not shown much interest. It was suggested by the chairman that the meeting should be adjourned until next Friday at 7 p.m., and this was agreed to on the motion of Messrs P. Amos and W. Piercy. BUSINESS CHANGES. There will be a few changes in businesses at Mat aura shortly. The well-established merchandise business of Messrs Aitken and Nixon has been disposed of to Mr Murdoch Campbell, of Balclutha, who takes possession on July 2. Another business that was disposed of during last week is that of Mr James McErlean, hairdresser, tobacconist and news vendor, who has sold out to Mr C. J. Heywood, well-known in sporting circles in Invercargill. Mr Heywood takes possession shortly. A new bootmaker has also opened up a business in Bridge street. MATAURA STOCK SALE. On account of the Dunedin Winter Show and the Dunedin Jockey Club’s races falling due in the first week of next month the date of the next monthly stock sale has been altered to next Thursday, May 31.
